Biography:

Born in Mitchell, South Dakota, Steve grew up in New Rockford, North Dakota and received his bachelor’s degree from the University of North Dakota.  Steve earned his J.D. from the University of North Dakota School of Law and was admitted to the North Dakota bar in 1972.  Following graduation, Steve served as the North Dakota Deputy Secretary of State until 1973.  Steve then moved to Wahpeton where he opened Lies Law Firm.  Steve was joined by John Bullis and the firm became Lies & Bullis, Attorneys at Law.  Steve is the Assistant City Attorney for the City of Wahpeton.

Steve is a member of the North Dakota, Minnesota, and Richland County (President, 1979-1982) Bar Associations.  He is also a member of the Minnesota and North Dakota Trial Lawyers Associations, International Municipal Lawyers Association, the North Dakota City Attorneys Association (President, 1992-1993), and the North Dakota Judicial Conference.

Steve is currently a member of the St. Francis Medical Center Foundation Board, the St. Francis Medical Center Board (past-President), St. Catherine’s Living Center Advisory Board, and St. Gerard’s Community Nursing Home Board, and is a past-president of the Wahpeton Chamber of Commerce.

Steve currently practices in North Dakota.
